Terms of service

Plain terms for a small operation. Ordering is by email, payment is by bank transfer, and the cancellation policy fits on one line.

Who we are

Nosso Paraíso is a family smallholding in the Algarve hinterland in Portugal. We sell preserves that we make from what we grow, and we run four working days a year that people can book onto. Everything is arranged by email at hello@nossoparaiso.com.

Orders

  • There is no checkout on this site. You send an email, we reply with a total and bank details, and the order exists once it is paid.
  • Prices on this site are in euros and include Portuguese VAT where it applies. Postage is added on top and is quoted before you pay.
  • Minimum order is six jars or bottles, or none if you are collecting.
  • Prices can change. The price we quote you in an email is the price, and it holds for fourteen days.
  • Everything is made in small batches and can run out between your email and our reply. If it has, we will say so rather than substitute something else.

Shipping

  • We ship to mainland Portugal and mainland EU. Not outside the EU.
  • We post on Tuesdays. Delivery is usually two to three working days within Portugal and five to ten elsewhere in the EU.
  • Lemon curd ships within mainland Portugal only, and only between November and March, because it is a refrigerated product with a four week life.
  • Risk passes to you on delivery. If it arrives broken, that is ours to fix, see below.

If something is wrong with an order

Tell us within fourteen days. If a jar arrives broken, a lid has not sealed, or the contents are not what we described, we will replace it or refund it, including the postage share. Send a photograph if you can. We will not ask you to post anything back.

Under EU consumer law you have a fourteen day right to change your mind on distance purchases, but food that spoils quickly is excluded from that right, and most of what we sell falls into that category. What that means in practice: an unopened, undamaged jar can come back within fourteen days at your cost, and we cannot take back anything opened, anything refrigerated, or anything that has been out of a cool place for days in transit. If in doubt, email and ask before you send anything.

Harvest days

  • Places are held when you email and confirmed when you pay in full by bank transfer.
  • Cancel more than seven days before and you get everything back. Inside seven days we refund half. Places can be transferred to someone else at any time at no cost.
  • If we cancel, for weather or any other reason, you get a full refund or another date, whichever you prefer.
  • Dates, group sizes and prices are on each day's page and are what applies.
  • Age limits are on each day's page and we do apply them. They exist because of ladders, hot sugar and 35 degree afternoons rather than to be difficult.

What the days involve

They are working days on a working smallholding. That means uneven ground, terraces, ladders, hand tools, hot weather, insects including bees, and in the kitchen a pan of sugar at over 100 degrees. We will brief you, we will provide gloves and equipment, and you are responsible for your own reasonable care while you are here.

Tell us in advance about any medical condition, allergy or mobility issue that we should know about. We would far rather have that conversation before you book than on the day. Nothing on this site is an assurance that a day is suitable for you, and the pages describe what is involved as plainly as we can so you can decide.

We are insured for public liability. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, because that is not something anyone can contract out of.

Food and allergens

Ingredients are listed on every product page and on the jar. Everything is made in a kitchen that handles almonds, so nothing here can be described as free from nuts. Honey is not suitable for children under twelve months.

We are registered with the local authority as a food business and we follow the hygiene requirements that go with that. We are not certified organic and we do not claim to be, which is explained in our story.

This website

The text and the illustrations on this site are ours. Please do not copy them onto another site. Linking to any page here is welcome and needs no permission.

We try to keep prices, dates and availability correct and we update them when things change, but a page can be out of date between a crop failing and us writing it down. The email we send you is what binds, not the page.

Law

Portuguese law applies and the Portuguese courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere in the EU, this does not take away rights you have under your own country's consumer law.

If any of this needs clarifying, ask. Email hello@nossoparaiso.com and you will get a real answer from a person.
